Making the Dream a RealityMay 28, 2021
Never give up your dreams, no matter how far audacious and untenable they seem…
I took the photo on the right today, almost 2 years exactly since I took the one on the left.
When I took the photo in 2019, I’d just come out of an investment meeting whilst visiting Sotogrande for a few days from Jersey.
With crystal clarity, as I took the picture I remember thinking to myself, I want this to be where I live and work. I want this vision to be on my doorstep.
I don’t know how it was going to happen, but it was…
Jules and I flew home 3 days later and I made the photo centre of my vision board.
At the time, the world was relatively normal; Jules was in her full time job, I was working with my clients in Jersey, and we had the obligatory 4 weeks holiday a year.
Just ordinary stuff…
But I had a fire in me. Every time I looked at that photo on our vision boards, I wanted to be back there more than ever.
Less than a year later the world changed for ever. Covid-19 struck and all bets were suddenly off.
At the time, we’d just scraped out of Valencia as borders began to close, and I honestly didn’t know if and when we’d ever visit Spain again.
For us, the time was so unsettling that we were moving our money around different banks and we even had a stash of cash under the bed in case the solids really hit the air conditioning - I kid you not!
As Jules was working from home, we had those vision boards in our faces nearly every second of every day…
But instead of wallowing in what might have been, we hatched a plan to make it happen anyway.
The dream was NOT going away. Come hell or high water, we were doing it.
Today, as a Spanish resident I took the picture on the right having just opened our bank account here in Sotogrande - you can almost see the bank on the right hand side of the photo.
Rewind back to 2019, I didn’t know how, but I knew it would happen.
The moral is; if you really want it bad enough, you can make it happen.
The question is; how bad do you really want it?
This post isn’t about ‘look at what we’ve done’ - no, I created it hopefully to inspire and motivate you to chase down that dream - whatever it may be.
Even when things seem hopeless and a million miles off, there is always a way to make it happen.
But it all begins with taking a step forward.
Are you ready to disrupt your ordinary, make a change and start living your dream?
By the way; the big drugs boat in the background is still impounded ;)
